The world of show business seemed to be a million miles away for Paul Potts when he first stepped on the stage to compete in "Britain's Got Talent."
A mobile phone sales person by day, an opera singer in secret, Paul Pott's dream was, "To spend my life doing what I feel I was born to do -- to sing opera."
It was his secret because, like most of us I am sure, he had felt that look from others -- the one you get when you share your dreams with negative people who "think small."
When I watched the judges' initial reaction to Pott's dream to sing opera, and then watched the judges' and the crowd's final reaction, there was no question that he had a chance of making his dream come true. The emotion behind Paul Potts' performance was so powerful that anyone watching would want to jump out of their chair and take some type of action to reach for their dreams.

Paul’s a worldwide hit, even in Korea!
Submitted by John on Thu, 08/16/2007 - 08:22.Paul’s a worldwide hit, even in Korea!
Aug 16 2007 PAUL Potts has won glowing praise for his debut album in Korea, as the former Port Talbot mobile phone salesman continues to take the world by storm. “The album is about a human story more than music,” said reviewer Chung Ah-young, writing in the Korea Times newspaper. * Personal Note - I don't like how they wrote "Even in Korea" as if they believe Koreans are not normal. I thought that was politically incorrect. PaulPottsFanClub.com - Fan club for welsh singer paul potts

My life has changed so much, and in such amazing ways
Submitted by John on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 09:30.Winner of Britain’s Got Talent Paul Potts topped the UK album charts with his debut release One Chance – just weeks before his appearance in Carlisle.
The 36-year-old opera singer is living his dream after being voted the winner of the television talent show a few weeks ago after belting out his hit Nessun Dorma.
Potts’ album outsold the number two album, We’ll Live and Die in These Towns by The Enemy, by more than 100,000 copies last week.
Potts, who started singing at a karaoke party dressed as Pavarotti, said: “To even get through the first round of auditions was unbelievable and to be honest even winning the show hasn’t sunk in yet at all – having a number one album is more than I would ever have dreamed of.

Excerpt from article
Paul Potts is storming to the top of the charts with his debut album, One Chance, which was only released on Monday but is already outselling the rest of the top ten LPs together.
Gennaro Contaldo of record shop chain HMV said: "He is well on course to sell over 100,000 copies this week.
v
"Traditionally this type of album would be released around Mother's Day or Christmas aimed at the gift market, but Paul has obviously built up a big enough following from TV without that kind of marketing.

Paul Potts Debut CD pricing in a nutshell
Submitted by John on Fri, 07/06/2007 - 02:36.This is what happened with the price on Paul Potts debut CD, 'One Chance'. (below is purely my guess).
First, nobody really didn't know how how much the CD was going to cost. Amazon had no idea if Paul Potts will sign US distribution deal or not. But online companies had to compete and take pre-orders.
So, they started to take pre-orders at price as high as $48.50. AND they promised to give us lower price if the price came down.
CD price went down to about $30.00.
Then Paul Potts signed an international deal, including the US, on July 5. That's when Amazon lowered their price way down to $16.98.
Now I no longer recommend the fans to "wait until the price drops". Still, I believe you can pick up CDs at BestBuy or Wal*mart at $10.00 each. You may have to wait a few weeks.
Remember, buying CD at sales price doesn't make you a bad fan.
At the same time, it's worth of paying double get the CD sooner.
Just buy the CD (now or later)
We must show the strength as fans.
Keep Paul Potts engine running~!!

Paul Potts domain name on sale on EBay
Submitted by John on Fri, 06/29/2007 - 00:26.I saw Paul Potts domain name on sale on Ebay.
It's - PaulPotts(dot)me(dot)uk
It's on sale for about $10K
Yikes... so, what can I do with that domain name?
Can I pretend to be Paul Potts?
Can I pretend to be yet another Paul Potts Official website?
Above practices are practically illegal (not to mention it's unethical)
So, the only thing I can do is to squat on it until I sell it to somebody (just like the current owner's doing).
One more thing.
If Mr. Paul Potts decides to sue me for cybersquatting, I really don't have a case against him. Some people name their pets after their domain names and such... it doesn't work.
The latest case I remember is the Actor Kevin Spacey taking a domain name away from a squatter. It was not even a correct spelling.

Paul Potts CD Too Expensive Pt.2
Submitted by John on Thu, 06/28/2007 - 02:24.This is Amazon's price on Paul Potts pre-order CD.
First it was $48.xx
Then it came down to $28.xx - (June 27, 2007)
Then price went back up to $38.xx (June 28, 2007)
Amazon guarantees that you will get the change if price goes down ** by the day of release.
I have a feeling that price will go down "AFTER" the day of release. (wink, wink... business 101).
Also, if you visit different websites, you will notice that they have different title tracks.
This affirms me to sit back and relax for now...
I think it will be entertaining to watch the price going down.

Paul Potts CD Too Expensive :(
Submitted by John on Wed, 06/27/2007 - 12:42.Paul Potts CD is now available for pre-order.
Price for one CD is almost $30.00. They will be shipped from England. But $30.00~~!!
That's a lot of money.
One of these days (very soon) the CDs will be available at Best Buy or Wal*Mart for $10.00.
If I buy now at $30.00 will I be helping Mr. Paul Potts?
Am I a bad fan if I buy a CD at discounted price?
The price already came down once.
Amazon had it for about $50.00.
Now they are taking pre-order for about $30.00.
I am in no hurry, the CDs are not out yet.
I'm going to see how things progress.
Last year, I bought an autographed CD from Astrud Gilberto (Girl from Ipanema) for $25.00. You can buy world's most famous opera CD for $10.00.
$28.50 is too much.. price has to go down.

Paul Potts Q&A - Live from Studio 1A, New York

LIVE FROM STUDIO 1A: PAUL POTTS Q AND A, BRITAIN'S TALENTI
I couldn't link to the official page (some kind of link validation issue).
Below is entire Q&A from MSNBC's blog page.
Q: What is your reaction to all of this attention? Have you gotten a lot of fan mail?
Paul: Well, I haven't been home yet, so I don't actually know.
Q: Do you think your wife will be jealous of female attention?
Paul: I believe her words are, "You're welcome to him!" Which is a joke, of course. Well, I hope it is anyway.
Q: Who is your biggest fan?
Paul: Recently definitely my wife. We've been married for four years, been together for six.
Q: So you first debuted your voice dressed up as Pavarotti?
Paul: It was a karaoke night in 1998 and I dressed up as Pavarotti for the bar.
Q: That was the first time people heard your voice? What was their reaction?
Paul: Some people from work brought tomatoes, but they didn't end up throwing them.
Q: Do you sing in the shower?
Paul: I've been known to do so...
Q: Is this your first time in the States?
Paul: I've been up north to New York State - I have some friends in Canada.
Q: First time in New York City? What do you think?
Paul: I've not seen very much of it yet, so I hope to see more.
Q: When do you get to go home?
Paul: You know, I don't know! I start recording the album on Saturday in Abbey Road Studios.

Nessun Dorma - Lyric and Translation - Text
Submitted by John on Wed, 06/20/2007 - 20:44."Nessun dorma" is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot. The aria, whose title translates from Italian as "Let no one sleep", follows the proclamation by the Princess Turandot that no one shall sleep: they shall all spend the night attempting to find out the name of the unknown prince, Calaf, who has set the challenge. Calaf sings, indicating his certainty that their effort will be in vain.
The aria achieved pop status after Luciano Pavarotti's rendition of it was used as the BBC's theme for the 1990 Football World Cup held in Italy. It has been that tenor's signature song outside Italy since the 70s, as his rendition of it garnered him worldwide fame.
ITALIAN;
Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
Tu pure, o, Principessa,
nella tua fredda stanza,
guardi le stelle
che fremono d'amore
e di speranza.
Ma il mio mistero e chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun sapra!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo diro
quando la luce splendera!
Ed il mio bacio sciogliera il silenzio
che ti fa mia!
(Il nome suo nessun sapra!...
e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!)
Dilegua, o notte!
Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle!
All'alba vincero!
vincero, vincero!
ENGLISH
None must sleep! None must sleep!
And you, too, Princess,
in your cold room,
gaze at the stars
which tremble with love
and hope!
But my mystery is locked within me,
no-one shall know my name!
No, no, I shall say it as my mouth
meets yours when the dawn is breaking!
And my kiss will break the silence
which makes you mine!
(No-one shall know his name,
and we, alas, shall die!)
Vanish, o night!
Fade, stars!
At dawn I shall win

Paul Potts Controversy - Paul answers the critics
Submitted by John on Tue, 06/19/2007 - 07:03.There is a controversy over Paul Potts' winning at Britain's Got Talent.
People are saying that Paul never qualified to enter the contest, because Paul Potts was already a professional. In June 19, 2007, Paul answers the critics on exclusive interview by The Sun. BRITAIN’S Got Talent winner Paul Potts last night blasted back at critics who claimed his victory was a SHAM Below is excerpt from The Sun article. BRITAIN’S Got Talent winner Paul Potts last night blasted back at critics who claimed his victory was a SHAM. The thrilled Carphone Warehouse worker bagged a £100,000 prize and a slot at the Royal Variety Performance with his sensational operatic performances. But his ITV triumph, watched on Sunday by 12.6million, was tainted by accusations that the result was unfair — because 36-year-old Paul had received professional voice training. Shy Paul has admitted getting tips from his hero — legendary Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti. And he has even performed in front of 15,000 music fans — backed by the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. But speaking to The Sun in his first in-depth interview last night, he insisted: “I’m no pro. I’ve never hidden anything. “I am what I am — a hidden talent working a normal day-to- day job. And I’ve never been paid for any of the opera work I’ve done before — if only!” Paul, who shares a modest home with wife Julie-Anne in Port Talbot, South Wales, also revealed he GRAFTED 13-hour days to fund singing lessons. And he told how he began singing to escape vicious BULLIES, FEARED he’d never sing again after two terrible accidents, and was SNUBBED by the opera elite. Paul decided to pay for his own lessons after snooty opera agents ignored his flood of tapes. He said: “I worked from 7am until 8.30pm to get as much money as possible for lessons. “I don’t mind doing manual work. I’ve got a degree but it didn’t get me a white collar job so I just took what I could.” After months of hard graft, Paul took six months off in 2000 and headed for Italy and one of its famed opera schools. While there he sang in front of Pavarotti — and made such an impression the heavyweight star singled him out for praise. Beaming with pride, Paul said: “It was one of the highlights of my life. I had to pay for the masterclass — but I had to audition first and I couldn’t believe I’d even got through.
