CLASSICAL: Paul Potts

When Britain’s Got Talent first aired on television, it’s fair to say it didn’t receive the most glowing reception.

Many critics saw it as the nadir of reality TV contests – by opening the doors for any demented member of the public to demonstrate their ‘talent’ (that term used very loosely), weren’t ITV guilty of enouraging, well, a potential ‘freakshow’?

Naturally, Britain’s Got Talent was always going to encourage its fair share of oddballs (which we laughed at with much merriment), but ultimately, its end goal was sincere – to unearth unique British talent that would otherwise have gone undiscovered.

Enter, then, Paul Potts – the modest mobile phone salesman with the romantic soul and the voice of a Neapolitan opera singer. It’s an unlikely success story, but Potts has an unlikely life story.

Miscellany

Okay, John . . . Confess! What do you know that we don't know?? I've about worn out the two copies I have of Paul's DVD - not to mention the tape from Oprah, Niteline and the Morning Show - so IS there something new planned?

And for all of you out there, I need the "expertise" of someone who's already seen Paul perform. My tickets for Washington D.C. on March 3rd say "no cameras." Have you seen cameras at any of Paul's shows? Have they been allowed despite cautions to the contrary, or are people with cameras being thrown out? There's a saying: "All of us have photographic memories - some of us just don't have any film." I prefer the actuality of the camera rather than a reliance on my "memory."

While we're at it . . . what's a dead YouTube video? Which ones have croaked? Have to admit that Paul in the closet quote was very funny - please tell me this wasn't a headline in some tabloid. Since I'm at my office, I guess I should get to work. At this point, if I see one more snowflake, I'm going to lose my mind (very snowy in the Chicago area this winter). There are those, of course, who feel I lost it some time ago. Any commentary on Paul's recent shows? And no offense intended to Paul, but my PBGV (French rabbit hound), Johnny Kool, especially loves to howl along when I play the CD (most days) to Nessun Dorma & Everybody Hurts, but not to any of the other tracks. On that somewhat weird note . . .

Best,

Carole & Johnny Kool, too (I wuv that English guy - arroooooo!!)

I don't know much

I don't have any scoops on Paul Potts. I just relay what I hear from the other fans. Somebody sent me the quote about sleep walking.

The Dead YouTube videos were the low quality videos of performance at a shopping mall in Canada.  Luckily we have an official video from SONY/BMG  here

It's really disappointing about the "No Photography" policy.  If you don't bring camera, you may see a bunch of others snapping pictures.  If you do bring your camera, you may get your camera taken away.

So, what's that mean?  what if you have a camera phone..  Will they take your cell-phone away?  Mm....

Paul

I think we have found a new tenor to re-place one that just passed( I HOPE)Now if Paul will not let fame distroy him with drugs and alcohol We can look forward to many years with Him!!
He is great!!!!!I hope he doe's some operas on DVD so we can injoy him!

Really

The way Simon pumps up different versions of Paul's CDs.. I wouldn't be surprised if they release 1 or 2 live DVDs from his current world tour. But how knows. :)
