![]() Mexican Independence DaySubmitted by John on Sat, 09/15/2007 - 21:09.I don't know why people in The United States celebrate Cinco De Mayo (May 5). Most Americans think May 5th is the Independence day for Mexico. In Mexico, people don't celebrate Cinco De Mayo that much. September 16th is the Independence Day for Mexico. The whole country celebrate throughout the night. In 1810 Mexico broke away from Spain. Happy independence day. PS. I am not a Mexican. I am cultured. »
![]() Paul Potts Article - An opera purist speaks outSubmitted by John on Fri, 09/14/2007 - 21:26.Click here for a full article An opera purist speaks out On Wednesday Aidan Lang sat in his office and listened to Paul Potts singing Nessun Dorma. This is the aria from Turandot which Pavarotti, who died last week, made famous as the Italian soccer anthem. It is also the aria Paul Potts sang on Britain's Got Talent, which made him, sort of, famous. Lang is the general director of the NBR New Zealand Opera, whose production of Turandot opens on Thursday. It seemed a good week to go to see him. He agreed that it was, down to the unlikely idea of the opera man listening to Paul Potts sing the aria in his office. He said he would, and he did. He would not, you could guess, usually be listening to a CD made by a bloke who got famous on a naff telly show, but I gave him the Potts album as a present. »
![]() Article - Top acts translate to Rotorua Energy Events Centre successSubmitted by John on Mon, 09/10/2007 - 18:51.Click here for complete article - Stuff.co.nz Paul Potts, America...the world, writes Rotorua Review Editor Phil Campbell. Rotorua has scored yet another two big time acts within the next seven-eight months with bookings from the Welsh singer Paul Potts and the fabled 1970s pop group America, with at least two original members. Of the two, the nostalgic will fondly recall America, through the Horse with No Name, Ventura Highway, I Need You, Tin Man and Sister Golden Hair Surprise. Potts, unashamedly shy but intelligent as he is university trained, is the innovative choice for Rotorua - a singer on the verge of greater fame. The man with ill formed tombstone teeth that seem to have suffered a form of desecration remains "just me, that's who I am." Now he is coming to Rotorua. ![]() Paul Potts Article - Potts' luckSubmitted by John on Fri, 09/07/2007 - 22:13.Click Here for a full article news.com.au -----------------------------------------------------
Paul Potts gave himself one chance to make it doing what he loves. The shy 36-year-old salesman from Bristol, England, entered Britain's Got Talent this year and won the contest and the opportunity of his dreams. “It was me who convinced me to go on the show,” he says. “I wasn’t sure that I was good enough, so I ended up tossing a coin and doing it by heads or tails . . . it landed on heads, which was the go-ahead to send in an application.” In a moment that is now famous, Potts strolled on stage looking awkward and nervous in an $85 suit and declared to the judges – show creator Simon Cowell and judges Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan – he was going to sing opera. ### »
![]() Paul Potts Article - Q & A with Paul Potts - news.com.auSubmitted by John on Wed, 09/05/2007 - 21:01.Q & A with Paul Potts Click here for complete article Q: YOU went from mobile-phone salesman in Wales to winner of Britain's Got Talent and a No.1 album of opera songs. Are you tired of answering the same questions about that yet? A: Not at all. It's very much like my life as a phone salesman. If I were to get cheesed off with people asking me the same questions about their mobile phones, I'd never sell any. You dabbled in classical singing before illness and a broken collarbone from a bicycle accident sent you back to retail. Did you jump at the chance to audition for the TV show? I saw the ad and applied for it, but I almost didn't send in the application. Click here for complete article ###

![]() Luciano Pavarotti seriously illSubmitted by John on Wed, 09/05/2007 - 04:00.On September 5, 2007, Italy's AGI news agency reported that Luciano Pavarotti's health has deteriorated and the 71-year-old singer is in a "very serious condition". Numerous news venues and È TV Antenna Uno television station in Modena, the tenor's home town, reported on September 5 Luciano Pavarotti is unconscious and his kidneys have stopped working. Pavarotti's condition is "very grave," the television said, citing unnamed sources. In March 2005, Pavarotti underwent neck surgery to repair two vertebrae. In June of the same year, he had to cancel a Three Tenors concert in Mexico due to laryngitis. In early 2006, he had back surgery and contracted an infection while in the hospital, forcing cancellation of concerts in the U.S., Canada and the UK. Pavarotti was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2006 and required emergency surgery to remove the tumor. Shortly after surgery he was reported to be "recovering well." His remaining appearances for 2006 were canceled because of his ongoing cancer treatment; however, his management stated that it is anticipated that his farewell tour would resume in early 2007. On Thursday, August 9, 2007, he was hospitalized for observation in his hometown of Modena, in Northern Italy, hospital officials there said. Hospital spokesman Alberto Greco declined to give the reason the 71-year-old tenor was hospitalized, but local daily Il Resto del Carlino reported that it was pneumonia. Announcement of his "imminent release" was made on August 15, 2007, but with no date cited. The report stated that he planned to return to recording his "sacred songs" and teaching his young pupils. On August 21, it was announced that he was being treated on the cancer ward, given tests related to his pancreatic cancer and would not be released for another few days. »
