Paul Potts: The crooked-toothed cell phone salesman won the U.K. reality contest "Britain's Got Talent" in June by wowing judges -- including the acerbic Simon Cowell -- with his surprising abilities as an opera singer. He has already sung for the Queen and released an international album. Hopefully he enjoyed 2007, because overnight opera sensations don't usually capture public attention for too long.

It does seem as if the dreams of this 37-year-old man from South Wales who has been passionate about music since he was a child are unfolding. Although he appeared in amateur opera productions before, he had never performed for pay. Then he sang a version of Puccini's "Nessun dorma" on "Britain's Got Talent," and won. Audience members wept as he sang the aria. A judge wiped away tears and said, "(We've got) a little lump of coal here that is going to turn into a diamond." Which indeed does seem the case.

It was on the stage of the Millennium Cardiff Theatre in Wales where Paul Potts' life changed forever — just six months ago, when Potts, a shy 36-year-old mobile phone salesman, auditioned for the TV show "Britain's Got Talent."

Nervously, Potts took the stage in front of a packed house and three judges, among them "American Idol's" Simon Cowell.

"I'm always nervous before I perform," Potts said. "At that point, I was asking, 'What the hell are you doing here?' I felt myself shaking." [more]

Paul’s potty over his winning smile

PAUL Potts flashes me a grin. And why not, he’s got a lot to smile about.

Since winning the ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent in June, he’s headlined the Royal Variety Performance, notched up 1.5 million sales of his debut album and played concerts on almost every continent.

Not bad for someone who was an unknown salesman working in Port Talbot’s Carphone Warehouse six months ago and who, until recently, for pictures always refused to smile.

But today, proudly showing off his new dentures after vowing to correct his crooked smile, Paul is the first to admit that money does make the man. [more]

Opera Sensation Paul Potts Kicks Off First- Ever U.S. Tour March 1

Paul Potts stole the hearts of viewers worldwide with his heartrending performance of “Nesun Dorma” on Britain’s Got Talent, then blew away U.S. audiences with a show-stopping rendition of the aria on Oprah in November. Now, fans around the country will have a chance to see him live when Potts kicks off his first-ever U.S. tour on March 1.

Potts’ life story is the stuff of legends: on the last day of registration for the TV show Britain’s Got Talent, he flipped a coin and let fate decide whether he’d apply. Potts nervous about giving up day job

Paul Potts has admitted that he is feeling nervous about giving up his job with Carphone Warehouse.

The phone salesman was allowed to take a six-month break after winning Britain's Got Talent in the summer, which means that he will soon have to confirm his departure from the company.

Paul Potts Has A New Reason To Smile

When Paul Potts, winner of Britain’s Got Talent, performs at the Royal Variety Show on Sunday it won’t just be his voice that dazzles the audience.

Paul has a brand new reason to smile this week, having undergone the finishing touches to his ‘smile makeover’ under the care of renowned cosmetic dentist Dr Johann Styger at the Portmore Dental Practice, Weybridge, Surrey.

However, unlike many celebrities who choose treatment to achieve the perfect ‘Hollywood smile’, the reasons for Paul’s lengthy dental treatment we not just cosmetic. “There were very important health reasons behind Paul’s decision to seek dental treatment,” explains Dr Styger, who believes that without intervention, Paul would have eventually developed problems with his teeth that may have affected his ability to sing. Although "The Associates," a comedy series about young lawyers at a Manhattan law firm, only lasted about nine episodes in 1979, one of its memorable scenes involved a palimony case.

A young woman claimed that her live-in relationship with a wealthy man had prevented her from pursuing her own career and that she deserved palimony to compensate for the damage to her career.

This testimony led one of the young attorneys to think that he had found the perfect opening for his wealthy client. He pressed the young woman to tell the court what career she had abandoned. [more]

The Royal Variety Performance proved a memorable night for Liverpool. Philip Key reports

WHAT a start! The Royal Variety Performance got off to one of its most spectacular openings last night and one with a strong Liverpool connection.

The British singer Seal began calmly enough with a rendition of The Beatles’ Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds and as he sang the stage filled with more and more people. There were people swinging from trapezes, stilt walkers, someone doing backflips on a board, drummers and finally Liverpool’s own Sense of Sound choir adding its own distinctive sound.

It was amazing stuff and one that the rest of the show would have trouble matching.
