Paul Potts, a 36-year-old cellphone salesman-turned-operatic star, made a surprise appearance in downtown Toronto today.

In his only public performance in Canada, Potts stopped people in the financial district in their tracks with five songs and an encore.

He stayed to sign CDs for three hours.
